In all fairness, they don't even have to do anything special for easter...yes they have the past 5 or so years but it doesn't necessarily mean they will this year. If they do well...great, and they can announce it when they want. Are you telling me you need to know that much in advance so you cancel all your plans and steak out in your room all day farming to try and take advantage of the drops?

I just wish Anet would stop doing absolutely anything at all for us because that way I too could find the same passion and reason for grievance that the thread starter has. I miss having such a wonderful feeling of entitlement and self importance. Will someone please help me rectify these shortcomings because I want to get in on this QQ act before it gets old.

fine, and if they don't do anything then this thread will be pointless, however if they do do something but not announce it, then 'in all fairness' feelings that they've become an incompetent lazy organisation that can't sort out a simple login post let alone understand the dynamics of pvp side of the game, will i suspect grow stronger

The problem this year is that Easter falls on the same weekend that should be the birthday celebrations so which one is it going to be? I was expecting Easter to be early as surely the 6th Birthday is the priority for the game. I seem to recall that the birthday even normally starts on Thursday so do cupcakes start dropping tonight?

Pull your finger out Anet and let the players know what is going on please

Problem is - yes its classed as sweet treats weekend but last 2 years anet no way announced the event which was confusing for new players and chances are this weekends special treats will also not be announced.
Also do we want to go thru the usual arguements of players in outposts asking if its started or what is the event and being called names etc.
Benjzee - its actually called planning ahead , maybe i wanted to arrange a team with guildies for say an event mission so id have to find out what their plans were .

I guess no one likes a surprise?

And you don't need to log in to see the announcements, they are posted online. I don't know what to tell someone that can't be bothered to take 30 seconds to check a website once a day and need 72 hours notice to plan gaming.

Maybe it's Easter. Maybe it's the anniversary. Maybe it's one big Easter-Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout extravaganza. But by the six, these complaint threads don't help -anything- or -anyone-.

Why do we even have these threads anymore? All it becomes is Anet being both hated and being whiteknighted at the same time. There is literally no point in pointing out their failures or backing them up at all anymore.

I guess the reason for the threads is the hope that someone will notice it and actually tell the players what is going on

And this is exactly the wrong way to go about it. There's PMing, there's social networking, wikis, e-mail. This is soap boxing for people who don't want to get involved and try to get a direct answer, it's just to make their anger public so they can feel validated.

If you have an issue, try to contact someone, like, I don't know, our CM?

Didn't anyone notice that it's both Easter and the 6th anniversary?
They are probably deciding how to combine or whether it's worth it to do both.

Maybe they're late with announcements because, I dunno, the entire live team is working hard to provide us with FREE CONTENT that they are under no obligation to provide? Given all the stuff they have on their plates, I'm surprised they get any announcements out at all.

Be grateful they update at all. ANet is under no obligation to do so. It speaks volumes on how much they value their past customers that they still have a live team at all, and still update the game so much.

you might also want to check out this thread: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/6...t10477774.html

for what others have been talking about for the anniversary.

And for the record. Easter has become as much a drug store holiday (easter bunny???? dont remember him from sunday school)....as christmas (santa claus) has become being over commercialized.....so basically knowing when easter is doesnt mean you are religious at all--heck go into ANY grocery store, drug store etc right now and you will see TONS of non-religious easter stuff (especially in the usa)....

I believe it would be nice if the special weekend events could be announced a little earlier.

It would make my life as an active player of Guild Wars much more convenient. I do make plans to participate in the events - even going to the extent of taking time off from work. I can't really do that if I am not sure that an event will take place or how long it will take place. This time there is the wonder about how Easter will mesh with the Birthday celebration to make it more complicated.

I appreciate people springing to the defense of Anet for all the reasons stated. They deserve defense because a lot of people do complain here about things they do, even when they try to make an improvement or change to the game. I do appreciate and support their ongoing efforts by trying not to always be a vocal kvetcher in game and out and by buying the costumes and e-store items in order to support the game I love to play.

But you know what, I still wish that Anet would announce the special events a bit sooner. They used to, just a year or two ago, when I was a new player and that is how I found out about them. I miss it.

If I had to go by what I see in supermarkets, it has been easter since the end of february over here. (Christmas usually starts at the end of september.)

Yup.

It's also kind of funny... I remember when stores had cutesy little Easter & Thanksgiving signs with little dates on them... "Don't forget, March/April X is Easter!" kind of things. They don't do that any more. I asked my neighbor just now - she's manager of the local pharmacy - why. She said that it's not cost-effective. They can't reuse the signs year after year if there's a date on them.

So they start hyping it at least two months before, and from this we're supposed to figure out via osmosis exactly which Sunday out of 8 possible it's going to be.

I'm just not that focused of a person. LOL

I'd love it if they consistently announced what the weekend event was going to be at a set time like they change Nick, change Zaishen stuff, etc. But I also recognize that, especially right now with THIS particular set of events and THIS close to the release of WoC and in the midst of all the GW2 hype... they may not actually be making final decisions about weekend events until the proverbial last minute. And that could be the result of any number of good reasons.

ANet has a huge amount of good will banked with me, so I've got a whole lot of tolerance to offer them when something doesn't happen when I want/how I want... and that's even despite how long the issue has dragged on with the connectivity & website problems.

Wasn't sweet treat weekend 2-3 weekends ago? I know I missed the last few weekends, so not sure if it actually happened, but it usually happens 1st week in April. This weekend should be the anniversary Thursday-Thursday event, dropping cupcakes, culminating in 6th year mini birthday presents...

Ack! Looks like they forgot to do sweet treats weekend...
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Weekend_events

Maybe they're having trouble combining the two into one, or designing the mini's - ahaha!!! No event items are dropping ATM.
